Marlo  is a passionate advocate for sustainable living and a skilled practitioner of bioconstruction. Born in the north,he spent years immersed in the world of art photography and experimental videos, leaving behind a career in film production to pursue a simpler, more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Off-grid for much of his life, Arlo has lived nomadically along the Pacific coast, deeply connected to nature and inspired by the wisdom of traditional cultures. His journey has led him to Oaxaca, where he has established a thriving business focused on sustainable practices. Arlo offers a range of services, including compost collection, waste processing systems,and permaculture consulting. He has worked with esteemed clients such as Barbarenas, Jardin de Elephante, and Chicatana surf cafe, helping them to implement sustainable practices and create regenerative spaces.

Arlo’s dedication to learning and experimentation is evident in his recent pursuits. He has participated in workshops on humanure composting and Cobb bathroom construction, gaining valuable insights into off-grid sanitation. His involvement with the Kima Collective led to the construction of a turtle shell palapa house using giant bamboo and bajareque walls, a testament to his innovative approach to bioconstruction. Additionally, Arlo has contributed to the Barbarenas super Adobe earth bag palapa village, demonstrating his versatility in working with various natural materials.

In recent years, Arlo has focused his attention on bamboo construction methods. As part of the Burning Babylon project in 2022, he joined a team dedicated to processing raw bamboo, treating it with borax, and creating esterilla (bamboo matting) and bamboo homes. With several bamboo construction projects currently underway, Arlo’s expertise and commitment to sustainable building practices are evident.
